la conche vallee d l'ouysse belcastel at la cave a bedroom st sozy, a nearby village
La Conche is a traditionally renovated 19th. century farmhouse situated in a small valley, three minutes walk from the village of Lacave & the river Dordogne in the beautiful Lot region of S.W. France .

The village contains a shop, bars & restaurants with many more nearby. It is the site of an elaborate floodlit cave system open to the public

This historic area was the battleground of the Hundred Years War
(1336-1431) between England & France & the lush valley is dotted with numerous medieval villages, castles & monasteries from this period.

The area is famous for it’s cuisine. Local specialities include Fois Gras, Conserve du Canard, truffles, lamb & goat cheese served with Glanes & Cahor wines.
Small farms occupy the valley flood plain growing crops of walnuts, tobacco & maize. On the untouched upland known as the Causse de Gramat, flora & fauna abound including deer, wild boar, foxes & buzzards.

Cars, taxis, canoes, bicycles & horses can be rented & there is a 18 hole golf course near Souillac our local town.

For kids there is canoeing, swimming in the river or waterpark, monkey, reptile, butterfly & eagle parks. There are caves to explore & fabulous country walks to enjoy. A narrow guage steam railway provides spectacluar views of the Dordogne.

During July & August most towns & villages have their own fete & the region hosts festivals of opera, jazz, classical music, blues & rock.
